My friend Matt Balan at NewsBusters alerted me to this video/article on CNN which quotes my comments made in February about the “gay-friendly” St. Francis Xavier parish in New York City. Here is a screenshot from the CNN broadcast:

And here is the video:
Some things to note:
- Our email-writing campaign to the Archdiocese of New York may indeed have contributed to Archbishop Dolan’s decision to contact St. Francis Xavier and prohibit them from carrying a banner in this year’s gay pride parade, so once again – thank you for taking the time to let the Archbishop know about this problem!
- We were sadly correct that St. Francis Xavier encourages its homosexual parishioners to lead an active homosexual lifestyle, which is harmful to them personally and betrays the witness to the teachings of Jesus about chastity that Catholic parishes and priests are called to provide to all persons, homosexual or heterosexual
- What faithful Catholics say matters. If Catholics refuse to speak out about the moral controversies of our day we will be drowned-out by those who disagree with the Church’s teaching, resulting in more harm coming to persons because the truth has not been proclaimed and defended
Let us continue to pray for the pastor and parishioners of St. Francis Xavier parish. They proclaim themselves to be a gay-friendly parish – may they come to see that to be truly gay-friendly they must be willing to open themselves to the truth about the purpose of human sexuality and the authentic path to human flourishing that only Jesus Christ reveals.
